Biologics

What are biologics? Why are biologics a growth area in pharmaceuticals?

In the simplest terms, biologics are medications that come from living organisms. They can be made from a variety of natural sources, including humans, animals, and microorganisms, and can be composed of sugars, proteins, nucleic acids, or complex combinations of these substances. The therapeutic target of a biologic is always a gene or a protein. As science and medicine continue to seek ways to grow treatments that are more personalized and targeted, biologics become a way to achieve that goal by providing more targeted and efficacious treatments for conditions and chronic diseases.
